The second round of the Alchemic Ale series comes in a beautiful 750mL brown earthenware swing-top crock – with screenprinted art by underground comics legend and art-world anti-hero Mat Brinkman.

Filled with Bokrijks Belgian Ale, the showpiece of Meer, Belgium’s Brouwerij Sterkens, it has notes of fruit and spice. This medium bodied Belgian countryside maltwine also has a bitter bite as a result of secondary fermentation in the bottle – a perfect tonic to accompany a session of monster-gazing!

The fifteenth installment in Ron Regé, Jr.‘s ongoing Yeast Hoist series of comics, Kept in Balance by Equal Weights is a 8pp. zine that hangs from the neck of an earthenware bottle filled with 16.9 ounces of a delicious top-fermented Belgian Abbey Ale — St. Sebastiaan Golden Ale from Brouwerij Sterkens.

Brewed, bottled, and screenprinted in Belgium. The zine is beautifully offset printed and saddle-stitched, and it’s contents playfully explore concepts of the cosmos – something to contemplate while enjoying a fine brew!

Mat Brinkman’s first solo show in New York – PHANTASMATGORIA – went down at The Hole on Greene Street in Downtown Manhattan. Included in the show were some of the drawings screenprinted on the Monsters bottle.

Luckily for those of us not making the scene, curator Kathy Grayson documented the installation of the show, the opening night, and photos of the installed show show on her Art From Behind blog.

(photos via Art From Behind)

Also, some great black and white shots from Shawn Hoke.

Yeast Hoist is the name of a sporadically produced series of comics by Ron Regé Jr. over the past 15 years. The early issues were entirely self-published on Ron’s imprint – “Nib Publications.” These were all mini in size and small in edition, and are now WAY out of print.

Kept in Balance by Equal Weights is the latest installment, and the first to come exclusively with a bottle of beer!

Thankfully Jordan Crane is going to post images of the entire Yeast Hoist series at his very elegantly designed website What Things Do.

Yeast Hoist 15 contains St. Sebastiaan Golden Ale from Brouwerij Sterkens.
